NFT collection on the XRPL
tessera, /ˈtɛs(ə)rə/ noun, plural tes·ser·ae
a small block of stone or other material used in the construction of a mosaic
Tessera NFTs are created using small pieces of vintage children’s bookcovers.
Every tile is a 1:1 digital version of a real piece of bookcover that has previously been used in one of my handcrafted mosaics.
For over a decade I have digitally scanned and stored these little tiles in a database that has grown to over 75.000 ‘pixels’. Each tile is inextricably linked to a unique piece of bookcover once incorporated in a real work of art.
Incrementally minted
The Tessera Collection wil be incrementally minted on the XRPL at xrp.cafe and put up for sale or auction. Each NFT has a 4K resolution.
I will create original 1/1 characters and though all NFTs will have traits, rarity will not be used. Each piece is unique.
The number of NFTs in this collection will be very low, a few hundred maximum. As the project grows I will release a roadmap with future plans and how holding an NFT from the genesis collection might give perks.
Each tile in an NFT is inextricably linked to a unique piece of bookcover once incorporated in a real work of art.
Genesis collection
272 unique 1/1 pieces
There will be a max. total of 272 Tesseras in the genesis collection. This number has significance. Any holder with 8 pieces (or more) gets a Titan role in the Discord, and with that a seat at the Titan Table. Titans can become ambassadors, get early access to collections, airdrop of the future generative collection and a discount on future commissioned pieces in the upcoming Gallery Collection. With 272 Tessera’s there is room for a max. of 34 Titans.
Traits without rarity enabled
Each NFT will have a set of traits.
Some traits can be recycled, like background, skintone, mouth, eyes and eyebrows.
Some traits are unique 1/1: Clothing, Headwear, Accessories and Filter.
34 Customs
Collect 8 on primary or secondary market and get one free custom. There will be max. 34 customs in the collection. If the collection nears a full mint and not all custom tickets are used, then the last slots will be auctioned to holders.
8 Collabs
There will be 8 collab pieces with a variety of projects on the XRPL or neighbouring chains. Collab pieces can be give-aways, auction pieces or simply artistically inspired.
4 Animated
Out of the whole collection 4 pieces will be an animated gif. These will all be auctioned in a public auction.
Rare traits
A lot of traits are unique 1/1. However two special sets of traits stand out, forming a little niche of their own.
-Filter trait: A collection of 8 pieces will have a filter trait added.
-XRP logo: A collection of 8 pieces will have an XRP-logo as accessories trait.
Old children’s book covers are a beautiful material to work with.
Roadmap of sorts
Holders of Tessera NFTs get a special place in the Tessera universe. Presale, airdrop, discount on commissions (resellers?) and print on demand. Tessera Titans (hold 8 or more) have a seat at the Titans Table, to exchange ideas, get more perks and higher discounts.
Q2 ’24
- Delivering the genesis collection. Aiming for 5 pieces each week besides customs.
- Start minting pieces within the Tessera Gallery collection, an open collection of Tessera art with room for experiments, collabs and commissioned works.
- Doing the groundwork for a small generative collection following the genesis.
Q3 ’24
- New website on tessera.gallery or tessera.xrp to reflect the expansion of the Tessera universe.
- Mint and airdrop of a small generative collection (tbd). Working on this already. With an airdrop (whitelist) of 1:1 for genesis holders.
- Expanding the Tessera Gallery collection and connections to related art projects on the xrpl and neighbouring chains.
Q4 ’24
- I have some undisclosed ideas about gamification of the technique of mosaic building. Who knows if it will work. #nopromises
- Building an online (or web3?) one-stop-shop for IRL print-on-demand of Tessera art with priviliged early access and/or discounts for Tessera holders.
- Start developing a large gallery with light filled halls in XSpectar/Metaverse with special access and perks for holders.
Genesis tiles are 25x25mm (1×1″) from vintage children’s book covers.
Any size or material however is possible and will be for future exploration.
Artist
I’m an artist for almost 25 years now, graduated from art school in 2000 (Fine arts, Minerva). I founded my own studio in 2007 focusing mainly on visual and graphic design and furniture design. I started creating mosaics from recycled children’s book covers in 2009, after having used book covers als base material in a range of furniture designs.
My IRL mosaics are handmade one-offs, both commissioned and free work, and are most often put up for sale in galleries and at art fairs. For each handcrafted mosaic I need ±2000 small tiles from real children’s book covers to choose from. These small tiles are handcut and physically filed and subsequently digitally catalogued. Over the course of the last decade I have garnered up to 75.000 small digital files of unique colorful ‘pixels’ of real world pieces of book cover that are inextricably linked to handmade works of art.
